Board of Directors
The Gloria Deo Board of Directors is a policy-driven, governing board responsible for the school’s adherence to its Mission, Vision, Distinctives, Statement of Faith, Core Values, Bylaws, and Board Governance and Policy Manual. The Board of Directors works and acts as a group and speaks with one voice. No individual director has authority. The Board of Directors is committed to the long-term viability of Gloria Deo by fulfilling its four primary roles.
Board of Directors
Athena Oden, Secretary | Kurt McCaslin, Treasurer | Josh Roberts, Vice Chair | Susan Rogers, Chair
Susan Rogers
Susan practices law in San Antonio, specializing in real estate and corporate transactions. She graduated from Baylor University with a business degree and attended The University of Texas for law school. In 2018, their family moved to Uganda for seven months, where Susan worked with Pepperdine Law School’s Global Justice Program, which partners with the Ugandan judiciary for judicial and prison reform. They remain involved in various ministries there and return as frequently as possible. Susan and her husband, Jerrod, and their four boys have been a part of Gloria Deo since 2013, when their oldest son joined the school’s inaugural first grade class. They enjoy coaching cross country and track and being a part of the community that is GDA.
Josh Roberts
Josh leads the engineering and operations team for a local midstream oil and gas company in San Antonio. He graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Josh and his wife, Courtney, have four children, all of whom attend Gloria Deo. They have been a part of the GDA family since 2016. They have a heart for biblical community and enjoy seeing people grow in their faith. They are active in their church and serve in a variety of ministries.
Athena Oden
Athena graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston as a physical therapist and has spent the last 40 years in pediatrics, working at public and private schools, residential facilities, non-profit organizations for children, and as an Early Childhood Intervention consultant. She has designed a curriculum to promote child development and has successfully implemented motor programs in schools nationally and internationally. Athena and her husband David classically trained their three children and were among the four founding families of Gloria Deo Academy. Athena is passionate about classical education, gardening, cows, old musty books, and a good cup of tea – and sharing all of that with her grandchildren.
Kurt McCaslin
Kurt McCaslin is a retired energy executive with nearly 40 years’ experience. He graduated with highest honors from the University of Texas in Petroleum Engineering. During his career, he developed oil and gas fields across the US, as well as in Brazil, China, Algeria, Ecuador, and Kazakhstan. Kurt grew up in Austin and has a love for both the people and the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country. When he and his wife Carolyn retired, they decided that this is the place that they wanted to finally settle. When Kurt is not working on his small hill country ranch, he enjoys loving on his two adult children and four grandkids, leading bible study at his church, and mentoring young people in personal finance.
